Bridal Hair Tips from the Stylists at Hush Salon and Spa: How to Prep for the Perfect Wedding Day Look 💍✨
Planning your bridal hair should feel exciting—not overwhelming. At Hush Salon and Spa, we’re all about helping brides feel confident, comfortable, and so ready to walk down the aisle. Whether your style is classic, boho, or somewhere in between, we’ve got tips to help you feel prepped and stress-free.
If you're getting married locally or traveling in for the big day, keep reading—these are our go-to bridal hair prep tips straight from our expert stylists.

1. Book Your Bridal Trial (It’s Worth It, We Promise!)
Your bridal hair trial is your chance to bring your vision to life before the big day. It gives you time to fine-tune your look, test how your hair holds up, and figure out what feels the most “you.”
We suggest booking your trial about 6 to 8 weeks before your wedding day—ideally after you’ve chosen your dress and any accessories. This gives your stylist time to perfect the style and make any adjustments well in advance.
Not sure who to book with? Our team at Hush Salon and Spa can help pair you with a stylist who matches your aesthetic and energy.
2. Up or Down? Here's How to Choose
The updo vs. down debate is real—but it all comes down to a few key things:
-
Dress style: Open backs or detailed necklines usually pair beautifully with updos.
-
Vibe: Want something soft and romantic? A loose braid or half-up style might be your match.
-
Weather: If you’re worried about humidity or wind, an updo may hold better throughout the day.
Your stylist will walk you through all these considerations during your trial, and we always tailor the look to your hair type, comfort level, and overall wedding style.
3. Thinking About Extensions? Talk to Abbie
If you're dreaming of added length or fullness, bridal extensions might be your secret weapon. At Hush Salon and Spa, stylist Abbie—who works out of our South location—is your go-to for custom-ordered extensions that blend seamlessly into your natural hair.
Abbie specializes in creating softer, boho-inspired styles with a romantic edge—think effortless waves, textured buns, and lived-in braids. She’ll help you decide between clip-ins or tape-ins depending on your needs and timeline, and make sure everything is ready well before the big day.

4. Bring the Accessories
From veils and pins to pearls and fresh florals, accessories can take your bridal hair from pretty to wow. If you’ve already chosen your accessories, be sure to bring them to your trial so your stylist can work them into the design.
Still deciding? That’s okay! At your appointment, we’ll help you figure out what styles and pieces suit your look, hair type, and dress.
💡 Pro Tip from Jodie
Not all veil combs are created equal—and most of the ones that come from bridal shops? Not the best.
Plastic combs can be bulky and hard to secure, especially if you’re wearing your hair down or in a softer style. Wire combs are a slight upgrade, but they still tend to put unnecessary pressure on your hair and scalp.
The best option? Ask your seamstress or veil maker to sew in a 6–8 loop section (right where the comb would normally go). Your stylist can then secure your veil by weaving bobby pins through the loops, creating a more sturdy, secure hold—without the weight or tension that combs cause. It stays put, feels better, and works beautifully with all styles.
Trust us—your scalp (and your photos) will thank you.
5. What to Ask at Your Bridal Consultation
Your consultation is your chance to ask all the questions. Not sure where to start? Here are a few we recommend:
-
How should I prep my hair before the wedding day?
-
What styles will hold best for my hair type?
-
Do I wash my hair the day before or day of?
-
What’s the timeline for styling on the day of?
-
Can I do a gloss or conditioning treatment before the big day?
-
Do you offer on-location bridal styling?
Your stylist will walk you through the entire process and create a personalized plan, so you feel totally relaxed going into your wedding morning.
